Melbourne based UK native, edapollo returns with his new full length album ‘Blue Spring’ – out now on Opine.
The album follows on from the singles ‘Wildflower’, ‘Run’ & ‘Free’ which received widespread support from the likes of BBC Radio 1 (UK), Worldwide FM (UK), Triple J (Australia) & Sirius XM (USA) whilst also notching up a wealth of editorial support across streaming platforms.
The full album dives deeper, telling more of the story of the producers’ dynamic sound. The album opens with ‘Rise’ which sets the tone for what’s to come, a driving, progressive downtempo track which is decorated with soaring melodies, intricate sound design & ambient field recordings. After that we lean into the more upbeat house-infused side of his sound, with ‘Wildflower’ & ‘Free’ upping the energy and showcasing more danceable territory. The 4th track track ‘Run’ features vocals from regular collaborator Akacia, who delivers in her majestic and effortless style making it one of the stand out moments on the album. As the album progresses, ‘By the River’, ‘Ivy’ & ‘Blue Skies’ offer lighter shades of melodic downtempo, where the delicate musicality of the compositions can shine, offering moments of calm and introspection. The album closes with ‘Afterglow’, an ambient yet fierce and driving cut of electronica featuring fellow Melbourian Kendl, who adds his signature touch with dreamlike layers of ambient Synths.
Ed had the following to say about the album:
“It was written over the last two years during a surreal time, going in and out of multiple lockdowns. In many ways writing it allowed me to maintain focus throughout this period and help me mentally work towards something positive. I usually take inspiration from new experiences & places but this time I found the inspiration came from looking beyond the pandemic. Having not been able to see family back in the UK for over two years, and in that time losing two Grandparents & a close childhood friend made me realise how fragile life is. I channeled all these experiences and feelings back into this album. The title ‘Blue Spring’ to me represents the idea of looking forward after a stormy season to a new, clear sky.”
