Q&A with Electronic-Classical-Orchestral music producer Apostolos Angelis

Apostolos Angelis is an Electronic-Classical-Orchestral music composer, engineer and producer whose compositions are based in classical music but his sound is mainly electronic with an organic feeling.

Apostolos was always fascinated by art, mythology, science and philosophy and at a very young age, he started being interested particularly in music and sound after he found old vinyl and cassettes at his house, containing music from classical composers and electronic music from the ’70s and ’80s.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?

My sound can be described as electronic-classical with organic feeling and I like to make it 3-dimensional using music production and classical composition techniques. Every person might conceive music pieces differently according to their experiences.

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

Vangelis,  Classical Composers, Jean Michel Jarre

How did you discover your particular sound?

I discovered (and still discovering) my particular sound through years of experimentation and endless researching. When still young, I realized that music is a universal language and music creation was a unique, true and creative way to express imagination, thoughts and feelings. As an autodidact composer, engineer and producer, I never felt the need to learn music notation in order to successfully express myself.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?

I use a lot of different pieces of equipment such as analogue and digital synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, advanced music production systems and occasionally also recording of acoustic instruments and vocals. All pieces of equipment that I use are equally important and each one of them has a unique role in music creation and production.

What outside of music inspires you to create?

I was always fascinated by nature, art, mythology, science and philosophy.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

All memories define us.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?

Johann Sebastian Bach

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?

I would probably be a writer, researcher or scientist (although music is science).

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

I am currently working on a new long project (maybe it will turn out a trilogy album) which is a blend of epic electronic and classical music with ethnic elements and organic feeling. Gigs are not in my near future plans as at the moment I prefer to focus on music production and composition.
