Meet KIDSØ, the next live electronic musicians to bring joy to your headphones

Two friends based in Munich have come together to create KIDSØ, a live electronic duo that will bring pure and simplistic joy to your headphones. Combining electronic music and percussion instruments, the two have just made their latest creation public. ‘Father’ and the remix by electronic producer Hior Chronik were released last Friday, marking the start of December in style.

The original track is soaked with hypnotic female vocals and atmospheric yet lively beats. The remix, on the other hand, takes a darker tone with the underlying melancholy coming forth to the surface. Respect is displayed on both sides as the musicians come together with one goal: to create magic.

Curious about the two who started this journey, we decided to sit down with them and learn more about their unique sense of style.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?

Key elements of our music are organic elements, like Foley sounds or wooden percussive elements. It shapes our sound to give it that fragile touch we are looking for.

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

While growing up we were listening to idols like Red Hot Chilli Peppers and others. In recent times, artists like Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm or Christian Löffler were major influences for us.

How did you discover your particular sound?

The both of us were playing in an Indie electronic band before KIDSØ. Over the time, the sound develops further towards the music we play today. It was mainly driven by the possibilities the software Ableton Live offers to an artist. It allows us to combine analog sounds in an electronic environment even with our live instruments on stage.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?

One of our key instrument is the Moog Grandmother analogue synthesizer. We just love the sound of it. On stage the live drum set is one of the key pieces to bring the drive of the songs to our audience.

What outside of music inspires you to create?

We both are into photography and love to capture our environment and nature outside Munich in our videos and photos. Also elements of our music are sample somewhere in Bavaria. Most of this stuff you can see on our Instagram account @kidso.official.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

For our very first tracks, which were released on our, we spend quite a while in a small cottage at the lake Schliersee in Bavaria. At that time we become most clear about our sound and vision. That was like the very first time we knew what KIDSØ will be about.

What are your favourite tracks from your upcoming album, Childhood?

I guess the title track ‘Childhood’ is still the favourite track of us. We have shared parts of the track on our social media channels like Instagram just recently already.

Tell us about the experience of working alongside Hior for the remix of ‘Father’?

We have been listening to Hior since a while already. He is a very talented artist giving a lot of attention to the piano in his songs. As we share the same preferences and network, we came up with the idea of collaboration. His remix of our track ‘Father’ is the result of this collaboration and we are very happy about how the song developed.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?

We could mention hundreds of musicians here, but we would pick Christian Löffler for his very soft and fragile sound. It is so impressive for us, how soft and warm this kind of music just sounds.

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?

Difficult to say, maybe something completely different to music like a lawyer or consultant.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

‘Father’ is the single of our upcoming debut LP Childhood, set for Spring 2020. With the album, we also are planning some tours and concerts for 2020.
