Bristol-based music producer obylx shares his thoughts on quarantine in his new single ‘Day By Day’ via Guise Records. The single was mastered from afar by Prash ‘Engine Earz’ Mistry (Jorja Smith, The Prodigy). The producer currently sits on 3 million streams on Spotify alone. His music sounds like a hybrid of old rockers like The Beatles, and more modern of work by Everything Everything, and Tame Impala.

Music blog Phuture Life adds thoughts on the single, “The genre-rebel makes us feel less alone in quarantine with his sombre lyrics in the song ‘Day By Day’, which expresses internal struggles in the midst of the pandemic. You would not say the song displays the singer’s misery, as the buoyant guitar play, and rhythm creates a rosy facade.”

DoofDoof adds a similar sentiment, “Oliver Johnson uses the alias obylx to document his life experiences in each single. His song ‘Day By Day’ is sharing his opinion on the current global pandemic, and the challenges it brings, especially where matters of the heart are concerned.”

Johnson (obylx) manages to charm the listener, even with his display of emotional isolation, I give this credit to the deceivingly cheerful guitar play reminiscent of uptempo 60’s rock.
