Brooklyn-based band Humeysha shares new EP ‘Nusrat on the Beach’ via Rolling Stone India

Humeysha shares the official music video for “Nusrat on the Beach”, the title track + lead single off their latest EP, released last month. Yesterday, Rolling Stone India premiered the video, directed by Hannah Claire Baker, along with an exclusive interview with Humeysha’s Zain Alam.

The interview touches on various aspects of Alam’s background, the spirit of his artistic brainchild, Humeysha, and his deep-rooted connection to his South Asian origins in his work both creatively and intellectually. Alam adopts aspects of Pakistani and Indian culture and Islamic tradition in his music, Rolling Stone notes, and Alam stresses that the spirit of “Nusrat on the Beach” is conveyed through memory and reinvention. The themes of reinvention and identity are further explored in the music video for “Nusrat on the Beach,” directed by Baker, a long-time friend and collaborator. Zain tells Rolling Stone, “Hannah brought a warmth and a lightness of touch to the video that I think uniquely conveys the spirit of the song – less about nostalgia than it is memory and reinvention, actually.” Following the video and EP release, Humeysha will soon announce live dates supporting the work. Humeysha’s Nusrat on the Beach EP is out now on all streaming platforms.”
