Interview with ambient music producer Serge Bulat

Moldovan-American musician and music producer Serge Bulat creates music fused between electronic, contemporary classical, world and experimental genre.

He has also been involved in both European and American art scenes, exploring in various mediums: from music and visuals to radio and theatre productions.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?

I’d like the music to be experienced in many interesting ways. Sound can activate several areas of your brain, interact with other senses and make you question things.

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

Enigma, Bjork, Thievery Corporation

How did you discover your particular sound?

I think I’d always be discovering it. Although there are many things that I like when it comes to production, I still try to approach the creative process from a new angle.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?

My synthesizer, laptop and field recorder.

What outside of music inspires you to create?

Knowledge! Lots of things to learn and re-frame the mind.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

Getting my first keyboard! All of sudden a new world manifested in front of me. I had no idea what to do with it, and that was the most exciting thing ever.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?
Salvador Dali maybe?

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?
An astrophysicist.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

Tough one… More experimentation?
There is also another game project in the works, which I’m hyper about.
