Music producer Strehlow is a man of few words. He creates chill and ambient music with elements of Hip Hop and Organic Electronic sound involved. One of his interested in music is that you could hear a song for the first time and it would make you think of a memory from many years ago.

One of Strehlow’s big inspiration was his parents. They had him when they were super young and both continued on to be very successful within their own professions. With the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals, Strehlow like to create music that said Listen to this, it is important.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music? 

My sound has always been evolving and I feel like I’ve been searching for a musical home for a long time. However, there have always been elements of Hip Hop & Organic electronic sounds involved. To answer part 2, I think my favorite feeling is nostalgia. It’s really interesting that you can hear a song for the first time and think of a memory from years ago. I’ve been trying to strike that feeling with music lately.

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

From my dad: The Beastie Boys

From my mom: It’s hard to pick specific artists, but instead just the general moods/feelings of 90’s hip hop, 90’s RnB, & 90’s power-woman pop(Celine Dion, No Doubt, Destiny’s Child, Whitney Huston, TLC)

How did you discover your particular sound?

I feel as though my current sound, like many others, is just a culmination of all the things I’ve enjoyed throughout my musical history. Enjoying sounds from Pop, Hip Hop, Trap, & Future Bass I’ve had a lot of fun with particular music waves in the last several years. But as I get older and much slower paced, I find myself really enjoying this “chill” chapter in my career.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you? 

My laptop. I can get by without anything else if needed. But My laptop with my sound library within Ableton is everything when I create things that sound like me.

What outside of music inspires you to create? 

Getting outside would be the general answer for me. Aside from that, my parents are a huge inspiration for me. They had me when they were super young and both continued on to be very successful within their own professions. Their age and youthful presence in my life has always set us up for a dynamic & close relationship. My mom, Dad, and Stepmom are all extremely diligent, dedicated, and intelligent people. Their support is huge, and I genuinely making them proud.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

My friends and I put together 2 separate do-it-yourself tours. Both turned out to be successful in both show turnout and general travel survival. Driving around the country with my friends, playing music, and meeting new people who were eager to show off their city was one of the greatest experiences not just in music career, but my life.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?

I would really love to make some songs with Antonio Carlos Jobim shredding every instrument we have available for him. His influence, original compositions, and work in developing Bossa Nova is really incredible. I would love to have the opportunity to show him the ‘modernized’ version of something he helped originate. I feel he would embrace it similar to the way ‘Herbie Hancock’ has embraced the modernization of his style of music.

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?

I’m a fairly emotional person, so I feel like if it wasn’t artistry I would still seek something expressive and/or fulfilling for my career. While I personally feel it IS an art, the labeling of a dancer often doesn’t fall under ‘artist’. So maybe a dancer? Unfortunately, I cannot dance at all unless I’ve had a couple of adult beverages, in which case I can dance VERY well. Alternatively an architect, carpenter, or city planner maybe. Something that could also be a creative career that wouldn’t technically be an ‘artist’. I’ve always had the need to create things.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about? 

I have more music sitting than I’ve ever had before. New EP’s(plural) out before the end of 2019, then aiming for my first album to release early 2020!
