Over the past few weeks, Mattia Cupelli has slowly been building towards revealing his upcoming album, RUINS. First, we were greeted with ‘MONOLITH’, followed by ‘EGERIA’ and finally ‘CHANT’, which we had the privilege of premiering. Each of the singles were accompanied by cinematic music videos, revealing pieces of the border concept. Most recently, the producer has shared the video for ‘IRIS’, the focus track of the upcoming LP. RUINS will be available on Friday, via MC Records, and we’re curious to see how each other unique singles come together to create a cohesive album. Intriguing track titles suck as ‘CERYNEIAN HIND’ and ‘EURYDICE’ have only further inflamed that curiosity.
As well as premiering ‘CHANT’, we were also able to sit down for an exclusive interview with Mattia Cupelli in which he spoke a bit about the upcoming album: “I think today the concept of the album has evolved in a way, at least in my opinion. It needs a really strong inner narration. In this sense, RUINS was born. it’s an album about time, religion and human beings. I tried to work on this project staying focused on these principles. All the pieces of music on this album reflects on that.”
The video for ‘IRIS’ is simplistic, as still lifes of dried flowers are gently explored. The producer allows a gentle play of colour to occasionally appear, adding a delicate stroke of inspiration to the tranquil song. The video was directed by Matteo Montagna, with additional credits given to Alternative Production however, Mattia Cupelli is known for his unique videos, as they lend themselves to the overall artistic output.
