Multi-instrumentalist AJIMAL releases a new song ‘It’s Real’

Newcastle-born, London-based multi-instrumentalist AJIMAL reveals ‘It’s Real’ – the latest track from his upcoming album, “As It Grows Dark / Light”. Produced by Guy Massey (Spiritualized, Bill Fay, The Divine Comedy, The Beatles, Paul Simon), the album is confirmed for release on Friday, April 17th via Wow & Flutter Records.

Of the track, AJIMAL explains “ ‘It’s Real’ was inspired by sci-fi films like Interstellar and Gravity. I was fascinated by the fact that cinema has become so hyper-vivid and real that you can sit in a dark room for 90 minutes and be completely absorbed in a different world which is a complete illusion – to all intents and purposes accepting it as a reality for that time. So it’s basically about that idea of cinematic hyper-surrealism and surrendering to fantasy.”

AJIMAL serves as the creative outlet for Fran O’Hanlon, often used to process the thoughts and emotions caused by real-world experiences and events. A doctor by day, he acquired the project’s name in the aftermath of being caught up in Haiti’s 2010 earthquake crisis whilst working as a field medic as part of his medical degree. He found himself surrounded by citizens from all walks of life, including an infamous guest preacher and former voodoo priest, from whom he would later derive his moniker. Following this experience, O’Hanlon went on to release his 2015 AJIMAL debut with CHIILDHOOD, recorded and released as he was qualifying to be a doctor.
