Olovson gives life to new piano composition ‘The Beginning’

Back on the piano chair, composer Olovson has removed the cover from his hardwood instrument, revealing a song that dances on the pedals and skips across the keys in joyous abandon. Titled ‘The Beginning’, his latest neo-classical work is a musical interpretation of the cosmogony, that is, the birth of the universe.

Engendering a cosmos of his own, Olovson modulates, creating novel moments that loom with light and colour, enabling the song to evolve, unwrapping like the ever-expanding constellation. More than music, his works tell stories. And this song in particular narrates the conception of being itself.

Olovson is unafraid of using the range of octaves. He boldly explores the high notes and low notes in a singular melody. That is, he doesn’t rely entirely on the bass notes, but stretches his melodies instead, reaching the mid-range until they nearly collide with the bass at parts before being pulled away by his compositional gravity.
