Olovson, the alias of Stockholm-born, LA-resident composer Jacob Olofsson, unleashed his new contemporary classical single ‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND‘ this past Friday via 1136 Diamond. This is his first release in two years, showcasing his command of neoclassical forms. Raised in a musical household, Olovson began playing the piano at a young age, crafting his own pieces as a teenager. His production credits shine with Grammy wins and multi-platinum sales, having teamed up with icons including Frank Ocean, Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson, Diplo, Silk City, and Camila Cabello. Streaming tallies exceed 3 million for his solo efforts, bolstered by praise for his debut Storytelling (2022) in publications like Wonderland Magazine, PopMatters, Creative Boom, CLASH Magazine, Rolling Stone India, METAL Magazine, NOTION Magazine, and Stereofox. Airwaves embraced it on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6, NTS Radio, and Worldwide FM, plus ‘Books Are Flying‘ appeared in SHOWTIME‘s The Man Who Fell to Earth.
This release sees Olovson handling writing, production, and mixing, delivering a neoclassical piano foundation. His vocals emerge in a soft, non-lyrical frame, enhancing the transition in his artistry. The piano work features an effortless touch, notes vibrant yet understated, with a rhythmic sway that recalls subdued jazz atmospheres. Melodic lines progress effortlessly, vocals drift to build texture amid clean, uncluttered audio, crafting a piece whose emotional weight endures.
Olovson revealed: “‘Things I Could’ve Left Behind’ started as a melody that had stuck with me for quite some time, and when I finally recorded it, I knew it was the starting block of the new project. I sing on this song, although only in wordless melodies, which felt like a bridge from the previous record into this new chapter. The song is about letting go of resentment carried for too long and making space for forgiveness and peace.“
