Panoram’s ‘Wandering Frames’ Is a Dreamy Detour into Sonic Surrealism

If you like your music a little strange, a little beautiful, and completely unboxable, then Panoram’s latest track ‘Wandering Frames’ might just be your next obsession. Released via the always-curious Running Back label, the track floats somewhere between chillwave, dream pop, and experimental electronica.

Panoram, the moniker of Rome-based producer Raffaele Martirani, has long been a mysterious figure in the world of leftfield sound. With over a million streams to his name and nods from tastemakers like Pitchfork and Mixmag, he’s quietly earned a place in the hearts of global IDM lovers. He’s also played sets for NTS and Boiler Room, not bad for someone who seems to avoid the spotlight at every turn.

Panoram’s music plays like a collection of sonic sketches: abstract pop one minute, cyborg funk the next, then suddenly drifting into something classical and cinematic. His music feels like an aural dream journal, full of odd little flourishes and moments that make you go “Wait, what was that?”

‘Wandering Frames’ is no exception. It opens with slow, swaying drums and gentle synth pads that stretch out like a lazy afternoon. Then come the surprises, pitch-warped saxophones, whispered vocal snippets, and the distant sound of a child’s voice threading in and out of the haze. The whole thing feels like walking through a foggy memory – soothing, a little eerie, and completely immersive.

Panoram’s world is his own: subtle, strange, and always a little bit slippery. Wandering Frames’ is an invitation to get lost. Don’t worry about where it’s going, just let it take you there.

Panoram told us: “Wandering Frames was written to act as a frame within which to observe. I wanted to proceed through images. Each element has a shape and a role even if I like not to follow a precise hierarchy. Voice tones are used as a vanishing point to read what we see. The main melody was played on a computer keyboard to make it stammering and not in focus.I wanted all the different colours to be sort of drifting away from each other.”
