New York-born musician and visual artist Marlena Dae has released the lead single of her forthcoming debut EP A Delicate Storm. Veiled in mystique, ‘No Place To Hide’ illustrates what Marlena Dae is about. Like a secret, she draws us in with her evocative voice, playing with moody hums to set a distinct tone. Retro drums underpin a descending bassline, giving the record a vintage feel.
Best described as witchy, the track tells the story of a spirited woman yearning to liberate herself. “I feel I can relate to this longing for freedom in ‘No Place To Hide,’” she said. And we can feel her connection with the subject. A definite sense of unmet desire acts as a backdrop throughout the track.
Marlena elaborates, saying, “Trying to escape one’s reality was definitely a topic for me at the time during quarantine. I feel for this main character who is aware of the dangers that lurk around her, yet she is determined to get to where she needs to be.” And likewise, Marlena has set herself on the road to where she needs to be with her latest release.
