‘Vivid’ transcends both time and place and is universal in its appeal to the unconscious or conscious awakening of repressed images or words in the mind. Additionally, the song is a decadently charming song with its storytelling lyrics. When Villows sings the following: ‘I walked around and stared through the windows, but what I found it was me staring back’, listeners drift into self-reflection about what the image about themselves represents and the kind of association they have with that image.
Villows relays his experience with dreams and their meaning: “Seeing yourself in a dream is such a strange and borderline nightmarish experience. It could mean many things, but I like to think it’s your mind telling you to re-evaluate who you’ve been lately”.
