Avant-pop & Tri-hop musician releases debut song titled ‘Blood’

Berlin-born and raised KID BE KID has released her debut single, ‘Blood’ on 14 February 2020 via SPRINGSTOFF. This track is featured in her EP, Lovely Genders which is due on March 20th. The artist developed a love for Jazz music during her school days through a chance encounter, and the two have been inseparable ever since. We find out more about this unique artist through her five-minute interview featured , and get an in-depth look at what inspires her sound and gets her ‘blood’ flowing.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?

I want them to feel themselves. In a positive way. I imagine them walking around with my music on headphones, doing the same thing I do when I listen to music: Feeling inspired about life and what to do to be happy.

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Radiohead.

How did you discover your particular sound?

I started to mix all the instruments that I play to a multitasking one-human-band. Vocals, synth, piano and beatboxing are what I learned to feel at home with. The idea of being able to play all layers – melody, harmony and beat – simultaneously without loops gave me a vision of having the freedom to do whatever I want in each second of my live performances. A mixture of Jazz and Neo Soul is what comes out of me naturally, because I used to study Jazz at the University and listened to Neo Soul Music almost all my life.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?

The Mophox4, a grand piano, a mic. Sometimes a second synthesizer.

What outside of music inspires you to create?

Nature, city, people, love, sleep, idleness, sadness, happiness, politics, art, talks.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

Many. My concert in Canada at the biggest Jazzfestival in the world, in Montreal. Or the concert in Paris when Mark Guiliana, Nicholas Semrad and Chris Morrissey told me backstage that they were listening to my entire concert because they loved it. Or a popup concert I did with Simon Denizart after 2 hours of sleep early in the morning with a grand piano in the mile end of Montreal.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?

Frank Ocean, Little Simz, Thom Yorke, Dorian Concept, Noname, IAMDDB, Noga Erez, Flying Lotus, Anderson Paak, Nina Simone.

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?

A tree.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

100% passion. An EP produced with love. New videos. International concerts. 2 gigs at the Jazzfest Montreal, 1 Festival in Quebec, the Lovely Genders EP Release tours in spring and autumn through Germany and France, and one surprise studio video with two amazing feature guests.
