Dare to explore other genres that are below one’s current depth? Douran is a great choice for those who want to expand their electronic palette or even have an existing passion for indulging in dramatic, cinematic soundtracks. If you had to put his sound under a genre bracket it would be electronica, however after listening to his latest song release ‘Inertia’ via Allo Floride Records one might think this man is creating a new mashup of ambient meets the dancefloor at the opera afterparty.
We chatted with this genre-altering composer Douran below.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?
My sound is a mix of electronic and organic with cinematic atmospheres. And I try to make people feel intense emotions, let them close their eyes and be touched by my melodies!
Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?
Hans Zimmer, Olafur Arnalds, David August.
How did you discover your particular sound?
I discovered my sound little by little, first by having several different projects so I could work on the different styles I liked. Then by trying to mix them, mix orchestral instruments and synthesizer, groovebox and cinematic percussion etc. That’s how I finally came to compose my cinematic electronic music
Why did you name this song, ‘Inertia’?
I built this song around a riff that runs throughout the song and is played by different instruments in succession. So I thought there was some logic in calling it ‘Inertia’.
Tell us about one of the first struggles you faced (as a group or a solo artist) and how you overcame it?
The first big difficulty I faced, having no contacts in the music business, was to get in touch with labels and people in the business to sign my tracks and do live performances. And for that, no mystery, I had to send hundreds of mails, meet as many people as possible and build up my network little by little :).
What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?
I start every track on my piano, so I would say my piano! But I also use a lot of my Arturia Matrix Brute and my little Behringer.. :). And I’m actually working on a big upgrade of my studio!
Music for the individual or the masses – which do you want to create?
I would say the ideal would be both haha. But otherwise, I do music for the individual. I don’t necessarily try to please everyone, but rather all the people who like my style of music.
Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far?
I have several, but if I had to choose one I think I would say my concert for Cercle with Solomun in an ancient Roman arena!
If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?
Hans Zimmer, Johan Johannsson, Olafur Arnalds, Apparat, Rone.. 🙂
What kind of message are you trying to send with your music?
I don’t really try to convey a specific message in my music but rather to transmit emotions and induce emotional states in people who listen to my music!
Does this single introduce the mood of your upcoming EP, Avalanche?
Yes completely, my EP focuses on mixing electronic and cinematic music, mixing synthesizer and orchestral instruments. And this single is in this mood.
What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
I have a lot planned for this year! Special projects related to film music, videos, an EP on a big English label, and featuring great artists :).
